Space Analysis

As you know, KSU has experienced tremendous growth over the past decade to become the third largest institution in Georgia. One of the biggest challenges associated with this growth is increased space demands to effectively carry out the university’s mission and strategic priorities. While the new Academic Learning Center that we will break ground on next academic year will help, we will still be challenged in finding appropriate space for the growing instructional and research needs of our students and faculty. To address these issues and ensure we are managing space effectively, President Whitten has charged us to develop a university-wide space inventory and management plan. The objectives of this initiative are:

  • To create a central inventory of campus space that will include type, use and occupants.
  • To develop a system for maintaining the inventory so that it remains current.
  • To establish a process for space requests and allocation that is fair and transparent
  • To align all space allocation decisions with KSU’s strategic priorities.

In October 2018, the Facilities Division retained a consultant to inventory office space on both campuses. To validate the information that was collected last fall, we need your assistance in reviewing your current space allocations and providing us with the most accurate, up-to-date information. Later today, you will receive an email with a spreadsheet and floorplan(s) for your college or division along with detailed instructions. Please fill out this information and return it by Friday, June 28th. If you have any questions, please contact Julie Page, who is serving as the Project Manager, at 470.578.2584.

Our goal is to complete the inventory over the summer. We will keep you updated on our progress and, in the meantime, please reach out if you have any questions.

Sincerely,
