What are SACSCOC Standards for Accreditation?
The SACSCOC Standards for Accreditation include a comprehensive examination of institutional quality. These standards can be found on the SACSCOC website at http://www.sacscoc.org and in the SACSCOC publication "Principles of Accreditation: Foundations for Quality Enhancement."
How does reaccreditation work? What is the process?
After initial accreditation, SACSCOC accredited institutions are typically reviewed for reaccreditation, commonly referred to as reaffirmation, every ten years. That process begins with the preparation of a self-study, which typically takes 12-18 months to prepare and addresses the university’s compliance with all the Standards for Accreditation. After reading the self-study or Compliance Report a committee consisting of faculty and administrators from similar institutions visits campus to meet with various members of the campus community, including the university president, faculty, students and staff. The committee provides recommendations to the Commission, which then makes its determination regarding accreditation.
Between comprehensive evaluations, institutions update the Commission on their progress and plans in an Interim Report, which is typically submitted five years after the self-study.
When was KSU last reviewed for accreditation?
KSU was reaffirmed by SACSCOC in 2007. While reaffirmation occurs every ten years, the consolidation of KSU and SPSU resulted in a change to the normal timeline. As a result of this change, KSU is scheduled for comprehensive review and reaffirmation in 2019.
Where should I direct comments or questions about SACSCOC accreditation?
Please contact the Commission only in relation to the University’s compliance with accreditation requirements. Normal inquiries about admission requirements, educational programs, financial aid, and other services should be directed to the University.
